The first step of this reaction is the deintercalation of potassium followed by reduction of the iron compound and formation of the corresponding potassium compound on the surface of the graphite flakes.The rate-determining step seems to be diffusion-controlled deintercalation,resulting in the larger amount of unreacted K-GIC in large-particle graphite (RFL graphite).Taking all these results into account,the designation “substitution reaction” should be replaced by the description “solid-liquid interface redox reaction”.
